International Day of the Girl

On Wednesday, 11th October, we celebrated and explored International Day of the Girl with our Middle School students.

This day acknowledges the power of hope and belief in making a change to create a better world for everybody. The day started with an assembly for our girls in Years 5 to 9 with music, dancing, videos and stories exploring what it means to be a girl.

We then had seven workshops, which the girls rotated through, all in mixed year levels, looking at things such as girl empowerment as well as understanding the need for gender equality for many third world countries. As part of our devotion time, our boys were involved in discussions about girl empowerment and the purpose of the day, as well as completing statements about the females in their life on an image of a girl in a cape.

It was an amazing learning experience, with many students feeling empowered to make a difference in the world.
