From the Head of Senior School
Welcome back !
I wish to sincerely welcome back all our families and students and trust the holidays were relaxing.
The break came at a good time and our Year 12 VCE students used their time effectively. I need to praise the staff who gave freely of their time to provide practice examinations and revision for their students. The vast majority of students took up this option and they will receive the benefit of this.
There can be great gains in the final few weeks prior to VCE examinations and the teachers have clearly explained their expectations for their class. This includes seeking them out regularly to go through past papers as well as revising previous class work.
Students are expected to have a sensible and set timetable to work from at home. A good idea is to place that timetable on the fridge so as to “make a statement that you are going to stick to it”.
There is research to show that completing past papers is the best way to hone your examination skills and we encourage this.
The Year 12 VCAL students are also approaching an exciting stage where they progress to their trade, traineeship or employment. Their two-year course and VET subject has placed them in a favourable position in their chosen filed. Our VCAL program is in its fourth year and already we have graduates who are in fantastic positions that are rewarding in all ways.
To our Year 11 students, we wish them well for their examinations later this term. We are at the moment going through the Prefect selection process for College and House Prefects. This is an exciting time as it commences our planning for next year. These interviews are before a panel and they are requested to prepare a presentation and then answer a series of questions. Even if the student is not successful, having completed the application process and sat for the interview provides a great learning experience in itself.
Next month we shall have our transition program when the current Year 11 students will commence their Year 12 studies.
The Year 10 students have completed their subject selection and this leads them into VCE or VCAL. They are very excited about selecting their subjects and pathway.
This term is an extremely busy one with our 'Year 12 Celebration Day', 'Graduation Day and Dinner' before moving to our 'Presentation Afternoon'.
There is a great deal of planning and I wish to recognise the incredible work of Elaine Pearson. Her attention to detail has made a huge impact on Senior School and we are so blessed to have her with us. She shall be ensuring all these events are at their normally high standard.
I wish you well for Term 4 and please contact me directly if ever I may be of assistance.
