Year 1 and Year 5 - BLP Buddy Activity
Bringing the Year 1 and Year 5 students together each term has been a rewarding opportunity for all students involved.
Not only have they developed problem-solving skills, stretched their 'BLP muscles' and grown as learners, they have made stronger connections within their school community. Last Friday, Buddies gathered one last time for the 2017 school year.
They were given the challenge to design a holder that would protect their egg as it dropped two metres off the deck of the Woodwork Room onto the Basketball court. The students worked in small groups to plan and construct their containers. The Year 1 students were able to apply their understandings from last term’s ‘Materials and Movement’ study to help identify how different materials would support the design.
It was brilliant to see each group’s creative approach to the task and hear their cheers of ‘egg-citement’ in their success. Most eggs survived the drop and much fun was shared between Buddies in the process.
We look forward to continuing such experiences next year as Year 2 and Year 6 students.
