From the Head of Senior School
Two of our VET students achieved major success recently. VET courses are offered to our students at Senior School in Years 11 and 12. The vast majority of courses are at The Gordon and are undertaken on Wednesday afternoons. There, students can gain a Certificate II or III in a range of areas like Carpentry, Food Studies, Childcare or Events Management. Their classes include students from other schools and this has advantages. Many of our students say it is the best part of the week!
The successful VET students were Gaby Barnes in receiving “Highly Commended” Shining Stars for 2017 VET in School Beauty Therapy.
Georgia Warwick was the Overall VET Student of the Year for Shining Stars for 2017 VET in Schools Beauty Therapy. We congratulate both students on their outstanding success.
Gaby Barnes is also in the production of “Submit. She Whispers” which is on at The Courthouse on Friday 1st, 2nd and 3rd December. It is a contemporary performance by young creatives encompassing art, drama and music. Tickets are $10 available online or by phone.
Our transition program began on Wednesday and this is when our Year 10 students commence their Year 11 work and the Year 11 students, their Year 12 studies. All students have appreciated the opportunity to “step up” and commence the new courses. It enables the students to better understand the work that is to come as they undertake a section of that course. Homework is often set and then checked upon the student’s return next year.
Our current Year 9 students have their transition into their Year 10 classes for 2018 on Thursday 30th November and Friday 1st December.
Year 12 Graduation
This Sunday is our Year 12 Graduation Ceremony at Costa Hall followed by the Graduation
Dinner at The Pier. These formal occasions mark the students’ journey from our College. I shall report on this in the next edition of The Vine.
Senior School Presentation Afternoon
Our final presentation is next Wednesday at Costa Hall and all parents and friends are warmly invited. This is when we recognise our students from years 10, 11 and 12 as well as showcase the range of student talents.
