Public Transport Usage and Myki Cards

Changes for Students using Public Transport & Myki cards

The Public Transport Victoria [PTV] have written to schools to inform us of some changes they are making to student travel on public transport this year. Below is a brief summary of the changes:

  • From 1 January 2018, PTV Student Pass applications and PTV Student ID card applications will only be available online at ptv.vic.gov.au.  Applications can still be processed at most staffed V/LINE stations
  • From 30 January 2018 the child age range for a myki changed to include 5 to 18 year olds inclusive.  This means that students can use a child or concession myki until they are 18 (previously 16).  When in school uniform no proof of age will be required however when not in uniform older students may be asked to show proof of eligibility.  The following ID is acceptable PTV student ID card, Driver licence or Learner permit, Proof of Age card, Passport, Keypass.

Finally the PTV strongly recommend that students register their myki at ptv.vic.gov.au or by calling 1800 800 007.  The benefits of students registering their myki are:

  • Their myki balance is protected if their card is lost or stolen.
  • Students can manage their myki online and set auto top up.
