From the Principal
The excitement and anticipation that was evident around the campuses this week has been palpable. It has been an incredible joy for me to visit each of the campuses and a number of classrooms to welcome the students to the new school year.
I could not help feeling especially emotional when I spent a morning at our new Surf Coast campus with the Foundation students. After such a long journey with many twists and turns (several of these being setbacks), our College’s newest campus is open and operating. We are truly blessed to see the fruit of the thousands of hours that have been committed to plan, prepare and build the wonderful facilities that have been provided for the students and staff that commenced classes this week. My sincere thanks to everyone involved of the past 11 years that this project has been a part of the College vision. I wish Mrs. Debbie Riddle and her staff God’s richest blessings and offer a warm welcome to the Surf Coast Campus families to the wider Christian College community.
I extend the same welcome to the new students, families and staff that have joined us at each of the other College campuses. We are delighted that you have chosen Christian College to educate your precious young person.
This week I had the privilege to speak at the Commencement Assemblies to share my dream for the students attending our College and to encourage the students themselves to have ‘Big Dreams’ for their future. I challenged them to include as part of their dreaming ways that would see their life provide a blessing for others as they develop their gifts and talents to serve others.
This is something that I believe represents the real ‘Learning That Matters’.
When I had the opportunity to meet with all of the new staff that have joined us this year I shared the following prayer. I think it provides a lovely framework for the work that we do as part of our calling as members of this community.
Give me wisdom as I teach the children today. Give me strength to endure the challenges that I know I must face. Help me to be patient and kind to them regardless of how they treat me or how I feel. Help me love them unconditionally. Help me know when to speak and when to listen, when to praise and when to correct. Help me to observe closely the expressions on their faces so I know if they really understand the lesson, and if they don’t, help me explain it in words that they will comprehend. I pray that I will inspire them to do things that they never dreamed possible, and that I help them unlock their greatest potential. Help me to be an encourager and treat them all with respect. Thank you, Lord, for giving me this great honor. I am humbled by the great responsibility you have given me: to help shape the hearts and minds of future generations. Help me never forget that teaching is a calling, and this calling is as sacred as any job on earth. May I be worthy of my calling. Lastly, help me always remember to be a servant leader and support my teachers and staff whenever possible. I pray that we as a team will make a positive difference in the lives of every child entrusted to us.
Equally, I feel it is as important that we as a community pray for our students, teachers and other members of staff. I found the following prayers below to share with you. I encourage families to take time to include our staff in your prayer time throughout the year.
Thank you for the amazing teachers who have given their lives to serve our children. As they prepare for the new year, fill them with strength to lead, grace to guide and hope to thrive in their classroom. Bless them beyond measure for their willingness to pour into the next generation through education.
Thank you for the gift of education in every form. As our children prepare to start a new year, may confidence be their foundation, may grace be their guide and may hope be their compass toward a bright future. I pray they would have eyes to see the needs of those around them and a heart to love well. May they face each day with positivity knowing that no matter what comes their way, they don’t have to face it alone.
I am thankful, and praise God for His provisions at the commencement of the new year at Christian College, and look forward to the many exciting opportunities and experiences that lie ahead throughout 2018.
