Public Speaking and Debating Opportunities

This year, Christian College students have the opportunity to participate in a number of different public speaking and debating competitions in Geelong. These competitions are organised by the Debating Association of Victoria and provide wonderful opportunities for our students to grow in confidence and develop their speech writing and oral communication skills. We are looking for expressions of interest from students from Years 6-8 who would like to participate in any of the following events:

  • Debating Competition (Year 8 students)

This is a team-based competition against other schools in the Geelong region providing a welcoming but competitive environment for students to hone their speaking and debating skills and build confidence.

  • Junior Secondary Debating Competition (Year 6/7 students)

This is an introduction to debating that provides training in the basic skills and structure of debating and gives students the opportunity to do three ‘friendly’ debates.

  • Junior Public Speaking Competition (Years 7/8 students): This program aims to give young students the opportunity to put their ideas forward in front of an audience whilst expanding their knowledge of current affairs. Students will develop their public presentation skills as well as confidence, clarity and the development of arguments.

Students interested in any of these opportunities need to get in touch with Mrs Schleutker, by email a.schleutker@ccg.vic.edu.au for further details.
