Things are pleating up in the textiles room…
Our textiles students are well under underway with their design thinking skills as they experiment with and visualise various concepts for their textile garments. Students are refining their technical skills, experimenting with a variety of materials and textile processes then developing plans and patterns to produce their items.
Our Year 7 students are currently learning the skill of pattern making as they work towards developing a top. The Year 8’s have been experimenting with fabric surface embellishments as they look towards adding a splash of fashion to their T-shirts.
In addition to this, a lunchtime Fast Fashion textiles club has started and I have been overwhelmed by the number and enthusiasm of our students who also wish to learn some textiles skills. Even some of our Middle School staff have been willing to try their hand at operating a sewing machine, thank you Mr Timpano and Mr Kehler!! Fast Fashion is beginning with making a simple circle skirt.
I am looking forward to seeing the innovative and creative ideas come to fruition towards the end of this term and will be very much looking forward to seeing them on the catwalk at out Art Technology and Design extravaganza at the end of the year.
