From the Head of Senior School
House Swimming Sports
Our annual Senior School Swimming Carnival was held on Tuesday 27th February at the Geelong Swimming Pool. Under brilliant weather conditions all students got into the thrill of the day wearing their house colours with pride. There was also a John McEnroe and Leyton Hewitt in attendance which thrilled everyone.
In the pool, all students tried their best and there were many great performances. The Heads of House and House Prefects worked their magic to ensure all events were filled, as well as leading the chants.
There were also many events on land, in which a large number of students were able to participate. Many were very funny to watch like the traditional “fill the water container on the head”. This always draws a crowd with much support for the various houses. The water slide being open made many of our students very happy and was well supported.
It was pleasing to see so many parents and guardians in attendance. Their support was greatly appreciated and they enjoyed a great day of colour, fun, swimming and games.
I wish to acknowledge the incredible work of our staff in ensuring all events went well. They scored, timed, measured and recorded all events to enable the day to go very smoothly. In hot conditions they performed their duties extremely well.
A huge thank you to the Heads of House in Elissa Huddart, Lynton Smith, Steven Sullivan and Simon Peake. Their work over the past four weeks was the reason why their houses performed so well. The synchro event is always a highlight, and this year was no exception. The Music was loud, all were in time and the judges had a difficult assessment. Burrows was the winner of this section and their precision was exemplary.
Drew Oliver led the day very well. Being new to the College, and organising this huge event, was a task done extremely well. We thank Drew for his efforts. Richo was also clearly visible being very comfortable behind the microphone with his quick wit. Pixie Wilson was responsible along with Ben Hines for all the data collection and determining the results. Thanks go to both of them. Paul Breguet was in charge of the events commencing on time and we recognise his ability to keep things flowing.
Flynn House was the overall winner and their team were able to gain points in the right events to take the overall lead.
We look forward to the House Athletics.
On Thursday afternoon the Senior School hosted the Karen Conference which was a celebration of the Karen people within our community.
All Karen students were in attendance as were their families. We were treated to an incredible offering of their culture, clothes, music and food. Our relationship with this community is so special and their faith is beyond something that is central to all they undertake.
We are so blessed as a community to have the Karen people amongst us.
Roselyn Smith organised this wonderful event and needs to be thanked for her tireless efforts. The library staff also need to be thanked for hosting this gathering.
