Systems Engineering as a Subject

Systems Engineering is a rare subject where the curriculum is directly linked to competitions around the world. Christian College students can compare their engineering and programming skills with other students at Geelong Region, State, National and International RoboCup Junior and World Robot Olympiad Events. With the RoboCup Junior National Finals being held in Melbourne in September this year as a qualifier to the World RoboCup Finals being held in Sydney next year.  Christian College student have upped the ante in a quest to qualify for the world event.

As an addition to Year 10 students studying RoboCup Junior Soccer in the classroom, more than half of the class is attending an after school CCG Robot Club. As well as this, a number of students are building soccer robots as their VCE projects.

Past students, now studying Engineering at Deakin University, are also helping out at the Robot Club to share their experience and give our students a head start in their robot development.

The Year 10 students are all exploring the improvement of Omni wheeled robots (pictured). This type of robot featured highly in National and World Finals. These robots have the ability to move, crab like, in any direction, improving their manoeuvrability and the ability to permanently aim toward their goals.
