2018 GISSA Swimming Championships

This Wednesday our College swimming team competed in the GISSA (Geelong Independent Schools Sport Association) Championships. Christian College is one of eight schools who participate at this Inter-school ‘Swim meet’ held at Geelong Grammar school. With a number of talented swimmers across the competing schools the level of competition continues to rise each year. Our students are to be congratulated on their performances on the day, with a number of our swimmers breaking records at these Championships: Nicole Briscoe (Yr7M) 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke; Madison Cooper (Yr8G) 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke; Max Piroch (Yr11) 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke; and our 13yo Female 4x50m freestyle team – Nicole Briscoe, Kya Werner (Yr8H), Ivy Mitchell (BYr7S) and Mackenzie Saunders (BYr7D).

The College team was very well led by our Captains Reuben Rock (Yr12) and Briely Wight (Yr11), along with our senior students who always lead by example. After 80 events on the program our Boys team finished 2nd to Kardinia International College by 40pts, with our Girls team finishing 3rd only 72pts off Kardinia who won this Shield as well. With some very talented swimmers coming through our younger year levels our College looks forward to being well represented at this event next year.
