Last week we farewelled 28 students and four staff members from Christian College’s sister school, SMA Negeri 2 Mataram, in Lombok, Indonesia. The group visited Christian College and lived with host families for 2 weeks with this year marking our 23rd year of our sister school relationship with the school. During the 2-week program, the Indonesian students visited Christian College’s new Surf Coast Campus, the Highton Campus as well as the Back Creek Farm. The group also had the opportunity to visit Deakin University to learn about the possibility of becoming an international student in the future, visited Narana Aboriginal Cultural Centre and had a spot of shopping at the Queen Victoria Market.
The benefits of the exchange program far exceed just improving students Indonesian and English skills, but helps form relationships between our two schools and our two nations as well as encourage cultural awareness and understanding.
