Jan ‘Yarn’ Wotzinski, Storyteller, takes Year 4 Students Back In Time

On Thursday, our Year 4 students enjoyed an incursion performed by renowned storyteller – Jan ‘Yarn’ Wotzinski.

In his performance, Jan depicted Colonial and Indigenous Victoria, told through the story of escaped convict William Buckley (1780-1856) and his 32 years as a Wathaurong Aborigine, and as the go-between in Melbourne’s birth. Three of our Year 4 students were invited to become actors in the play. Rani (4G), Archer (4B) and Tiana (4M) all had different roles in the performance which required them to rehearse in preparation for the event. All three students gave an entertaining performance and the play itself was a great way to link some of the concepts we have covered during our Integrated Studies Unit – My Australian Heritage.
