This week in VCAL
Students in the Year 12 VCAL class enjoyed a two-day Urban Camp in Melbourne this week. The learning centred on being ‘savvy’ in the city. For many of the students taking responsibility to navigate the CBD was something new to them. In groups, they completed a competitive Great Race that led them to many of Melbourne’s main attractions concluding at the Botanical gardens. They used apps to find their way around the public transport system. Students implemented their previously planned out walking tours, observed social diversity in action, carried out some primary research and collected data related to their projects. They experienced healthy eating out on a budget in Chinatown followed by an evening stroll down Southbank for ice cream and a flame attraction. Students selected their lunch at the Queen Victoria Market according to a healthy and cultural set criterion. Thank you to the VCAL staff for the planning and preparation put into this camp and to Mr Fanning, Mrs Daffy and Miss Platt for their participation making the camp a worthwhile experience for everyone involved.
