Prep/Year 1 Hinamatsuri (Japanese Doll Festival) Activities

Our Japanese program provides the Junior school students opportunities to learn not only language skills but also intercultural understanding and awareness. There are many special days in Japan. One of the traditional annual Japanese festivals is Hina-Matusri, Doll Festival or Girls’ Day in March. This festival is a time to pray and wish for the healthy growth of young girls. Japanese families who have little daughters celebrate Hinamatsuri Festival by setting up a display of beautiful hina dolls. Through various fun cultural activities such as making Japanese doll cards or origami dolls and watching video clips, the students learnt about the festival, as well they learnt to appreciate and have respect for, a different culture.
