Anzac Day - 4G delve deep into the past

Leading up to April 25th, the Year Four students were focusing on Anzac Day. They were reading, viewing and discussing the importance of Anzac Day and learning about the critical events that unfolded on this important day, and during the many months which followed.  In Writing sessions, some students chose to place themselves in the shoes of an ANZAC soldier or Turkish commander and wrote a sensory snapshot exploring what it must have been like to experience being there on the battlefields of Gallipoli.  Other students chose to explore how the war was connected to them personally by documenting in a variety of text types what Anzac Day means to their family.

This was a meaningful introduction activity which helped prepare the students for the Anzac Day commemorative service held Tuesday, 24th April.
