Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Professional Development Day
On Tuesday, April 24th the Christian College Bellarine Campus hosted a Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Professional Development Day. The people attending the day consisted of five SAKG staff, 15 other kindergarten, primary, secondary, learning support teachers from Geelong and district region and five CCG staff from three different campuses.
It was particularly exciting to host this event here at Bellarine Campus as our newly developed barn area is certainly taking shape. The barn itself has been completely gutted and refurbished structurally, a new concrete floor has been laid, a new chicken and duck enclosure has been built, a fence and front gate is nearly completed, the entire area has been excavated and leveled, wicking garden beds are in place, the water tank has been stripped and ready to paint and the stage area has been built. The Bellarine kitchen garden community space is now ready to grow. Sharing our progress with the SAKG team and attending community was great, as we were able to complete several practical activities out in the garden space whilst collectively sharing knowledge and skills and learning about other similar journeys. Part of the day also included using fresh seasonal produce to create a delicious Middle Eastern feast, from SAKG recipes which were enjoyed by all for a communal lunch.
It was great to share positive and challenging aspects in developing new initiatives across our campuses with the Christian College staff and we look forward to planning and integrating new possibilities at our various, unique sites in the coming months.
