Year 11 VCAL Murray River Trip

On Sunday 22nd to Tuesday 24th of April the Year 11 VCAL students were lucky enough to experience a Canoe trip along the Murray, paddling from Cobram to Tocumwel. The students spent the weeks before planning and researching the safety aspects of organising such a trip as well as mapping out where they would travel and planning their meals. The staff and students canoed along the Murray stopping each night to make camp on the beach alongside the river. The three days spent paddling down the river were an excellent opportunity for students and staff to combine their skills in team work, respect and relationship building. Trips like these are an integral part of the VCAL program where students are put into real life situations, developing those essential skills to assist in life and work after school. Student feedback included the pride they felt being taken out of their comfort zone and experiencing something that they may not have done before. The collaboration and teamwork that occurred showed just how important these programs are for our students.
