“LIVE MUSIC IS GOOD FOR YOU!”

“LIVE MUSIC IS GOOD FOR YOU!”

On Monday, 30 April, Mrs. Regina Thomae, Mr. Andy Francis and I had the absolute pleasure of taking the Highton Middle School Choir to the Royal Melbourne Hospital to take part in their Music Therapy Annual Schools Music Festival. The festival is run by Dr. Emma O’Brien (OAM), who has spent years developing the fantastic Music Therapy program at the hospital.

Students and staff were invited to learn about the incredible benefits of music therapy (which research now tells us not only improves mental wellbeing, cognitive function but also blood work and immunity), during a 45min interactive tutorial with Dr. O’Brien. We also performed as a full choir, a small vocal group and featured student soloists, playing and singing for the patients, families and staff at the hospital.

So, next time you’re feeling a bit low on energy or spirit, grab an instrument or have a sing! It’ll lift your spirits in no time!

The Highton Middle School Choir rehearses on Wednesday afternoons, 3.45 – 5.00pm in the Highton Chapel. New members are always welcome - It’s a happy place to be!
