Indonesian students shine at the ‘Sayembara Lisan’

On Wednesday 2nd May, 42 Indonesian language students from Year 5, 7, 9 and 11 represented Christian College at the Sayembara Lisan Indonesian speaking competition, St Ignatius College, Drydale. The Sayembara Lisan is an annual event bringing together Indonesian language students from Prep to Year 11 from across the Geelong region, to showcase their language skills in an authentic setting outside of the classroom.

In one on one interviews, students demonstrated their ability to communicate personal information and respond to unrehearsed questions on prepared topics. Primary students presented an Indonesian folktale, aiming to engage and impress with natural pronunciation and intonation.

We congratulate all of our 42 participants for their commitment and efforts working with their Indonesian teachers to prepare for their individual performances. The Sayembara Lisan provides a valuable opportunity to consolidate what is learnt in language classes and build confidence and skills vital to communicating in the language in real time, particularly at higher levels and the VCE.

We are very proud to announce the following award winners from Middle School-Highton and the Senior School who have achieved a place at the State Finals of the Sayembara Lisan on the 2nd of June at the Sidney Myer Asia Centre, Melbourne University.

We wish these students the very best for their finals preparation as they represent the Geelong region in their respective year levels, meeting finalists from across the state’s metropolitan and country primary and secondary schools.
