Japanese 2018 Prep and Year 1 Childrens' Day Activities

In Japan, from the 29th of April to early May is called Golden Week because a number of national holidays are accumulated during this period. Among these national holidays, Childrens' Day (Kodomo no hi) is a very popular festival for children.

The Prep and Year 1 students learnt that Japanese families fly carp streamers (Koinobori) and display samurai warrior’s helmet (Kabuto) on the day with wishes for their children to grow healthy and strong.

The students enjoyed holding the giant carps and seeing the warrior’s helmet. They also enjoyed colouring in Koinobori and making kabuto helmets with origami paper. Through the fun activities, the students built on their knowledge about Japanese culture.
