Independent Schools Tag Team Surfing Titles

The Christian College didn’t have to venture far on Monday the 7th of May to compete in the Independent schools tag team surfing title held at Jan Juc

This year we entered a girls team consisting of 4 girls and a mixed team consisting of 6 boys and 1 girl.

The conditions were clean and offshore all day with waves around the 2-3 foot mark.

Both the Mixed team and the Girls team surfed very well in the semifinals to progress through to the final against the best schools in the state.

The teams were well led by surfing captains Tully Wylie and Angelique Kefalas on the day, they were supportive of all team members and made sure the younger team members knew how important every surfer was to the success of the team regardless of age.

The girls were up against it in the final with both St Ignatius, Newhaven College and Sacred Heart fielding some very strong teams. The Christian College girls did the school proud surfing well in the challenging conditions.

The team consisted of Angelique Kefalas, Imogen Castle, Poppy Schaap and Jaz Wylie.

The final results for the Girls final were

1st St Ignatius

2nd Newhaven College

3rd Sacred Heart

4th Christian College Geelong

The Mixed Team report

After tearing through the semi finals with one of the highest heat scores for the day the team looked in good form to take it right up to St Josephs in the mixed final. We had a very strong and disciplined team who were surfing for the team result rather than individual glory.

During the final the conditions again were tricky due to tidal changes with many waves difficult to execute any critical manoeuvres on. The team did an incredible job to stick to their allocated times and remained positive and supported each other all day. Again Tully Wylie led from front putting on a clinical display of surfing. He was also very active in his mentoring and making sure all surfers knew where to paddle out, where to sit in the lineup and which waves to target.

After 60 minutes of surfing St Joseph’s came out on top with a strong final performance.

Our team on the day consisted of

Tully Wylie, Jaz Wylie, Nick Russel, Jayden Schram, Dylan Forras, Hugh Taylor, Flynn Daniel, Luke Day, Remi Currell and Taz Higgins.

The results were

1st St Josephs Collge

2nd Christian College Geelong

3rd St Ignatius

4th Kardinia International College
