Year 3 S.T.E.A.M Program

During our S.T.E.A.M sessions this term the Year 3’s have been investigating the Science unit ‘Heating Up’.  The students have been conducting experiments relating to how heat effects different materials and how liquids and solids respond to changes in temperature.

Interesting activities this week involved using plastic, metal and wooden spoons to see which materials conducted heat, testing how heat travels. The students then turned cream into butter using friction from marbles and our session concluded with an explosive activity where steam was used to blow the lid off a Milo Tin.

The students have been very engaged in their learning with lots of hands on activities, many of which can be performed at home, with adult supervision, using everyday household items.
