I am super excited to introduce to you Hannah Wood this week. Hannah is participating in the VCAL program and is the first VCAL student to be appointed to a Prefect position. Hannah is an enthusiastic and active member of the school community and an important link between the VCE and VCAL students.
“It is a real honour to be the first VCAL Prefect. I think it comes down to being determined, believing in yourself and having a vision. I wanted to prove that we can all be a part of something great even when choosing an alternative pathway. I am so happy to be able to contribute to the student leadership of the college.”
Hannah’s portfolio is Philanthropy which aims to raise funds for the school and broader community. This portfolio differs from Izzy Hackett’s Social Service portfolio which has volunteering at its core. Hannah is a proven philanthropy enthusiast having participated in the “Schools in Philanthropy” program in 2017 (as the Chairperson) and the Salvo’s Red Shield Door Knock for past six years, as well as many other fundraising opportunities. The Philanthropy program is in great hands with Hannah’s efforts, recently evident with the kiosk she managed at all the performances of Alice in Wonderland. Hannah also co-initiated a food drive during Homelessness Awareness Week.
“My vision is to unite everyone in our school community to get involved and excited about giving back! This year I really want to focus on making fundraising fun, interesting and more engaging by adding themes, games and education to events.”
“I am really enjoying being part of a big team that has the capability to make a difference and to have the opportunity to have an impact in our community”.
Hannah would like to become a teacher’s aide in Primary Schools after taking some time off to travel around Australia. She hopes to visit and volunteer in small communities in Central Australia and around the coast.
Finally, I am the sixth college prefect and my nominated portfolio is Communication. In addition to these articles I will lead a team in creating the Year 12 Yearbook, later in the year. I hope for a career in some form of communication, either written or spoken or both. In the meantime I’d like to bring you informative articles and welcome all of your suggestions for topics of interest. Please email me or come and see me – I’m always happy to chat!
Have a wonderful week!
