Victorian Schools Music Festival & The All String Orchestras Concert at The Highton Chapel
On Monday May 28th the Highton and Bellarine Middle School Strings and the Senior Strings all journeyed to Hawthorn Arts Centre to appear in the Victorian Schools Music Festival. Each of the String Orchestras Performed a Program of Pieces, took part in an ‘on stage’ tutorial with one of the guest adjudicators and also had the opportunity to listen to other orchestras perform and have their tutorials. Each group received a written critique from the adjudicators and a rating. All three of our Orchestras that attended the Festival received excellent awards with the Bellarine Middle School Strings gaining a Gold Award and the Highton Middle School and Senior Campus Orchestras achieving a Platinum Award each. The conductors of our orchestras Mr Martin DeMarte, Ms Rebecca Bertoncello and Mr Olivier Bonnici are extremely proud of the musicians in their ensembles and the way they represented Christian College so beautifully.
On Tuesday evening this week, all five of the Christian College String orchestras performed in the Highton Middle School Chapel for family and friends. The Chapel was packed and filled with luscious, glorious string sounds. The quality of the performances was at times breath taking. For many of our younger string players it was their first performance evening with lots of photos and movies being shot! For older students it was lovely to hear the growth in their technique and musicianship from the same concert last year. Congratulations to Mr Bonnici, Mr DeMarte, Ms Bertoncello and their team of dedicated and highly skilled string staff, who presented 120 string students in 5 string orchestras, performing a wonderful concert event for our community.
