RoboCup Junior - Regional Finals

Last week saw the 18th running of the RoboCup Junior Geelong Regional Event at the Highton Middle School Campus. The event was an exhibition of STEAM at its practical best. This year’s event attracted 44 teams from 11 schools, and 136 students. The Sports and Aquatic Centre was a hive of activity with wall to wall problem solvers, engineers, programmers and artists all showing off their skills. Students competed in Robot Rescue, Robot Soccer and the more creative On Stage League. On Stage is where robots act out a story or dance along to a musical score.

Christian College was successful in taking out four out of the five different competitions that were conducted.  Middle School was represented well with multiple team entries in both the On Stage Novice division and Simple Simon Soccer competition.  Bradley Cochrane, Brandon Murphy, and Kade Robinson of "The Terminators" took first overall in the On Stage division, while Kate Martin and Isla Henley of team "Kite" took second.  A strong showing from Max Daley, Riley Harrison, and Bailey Janssen (Da Boys) also impressed highly.  Jack Gordon and Ewan Hayden (Elite Bots) as well as Matthew Anderson and Blake Nobel (RALPH) fell outside the top spots but demonstrated great creativity and coding skill.  Middle School took another first place spot in the Simple Simon Soccer division with Alex Corinaldi, Olivia Bykersma, Sam Coleman, and Martin Dean (Super Mario Brothers) taking the win.  Congratulations to all of the competing teams as it takes a tremendous amount of dedication and skill to be competition ready.  The teams are all fired up in preparing for state finals at University of Melbourne in August and the National Finals to be held at Melbourne Park in September.
