From the Head of Senior School
Welcome to Term 3
We wish to welcome all students and staff back for the start of Term 3. We hope that you all have had a relaxing break and spent time with your family. The weather was very brazen and for those who were able to escape to warmer climates, we are jealous.
This term will be a busy one again and it is the last full term for our Year 12 students.
Where has the year gone?!!!!!
We trust our Year 12 students used their time well to revise and to plan their work going forward. The relationship between the student and teacher is vital and our College is proud of how we connect with our students. Students should always be encouraged to seek advice and answers from their teachers, if needed. It is this group that know your child’s learning the best and with their experience, are able to guide each and every one to mastery.
Our Year 11 students will be working hard this term to ensure they have a sound basis for their final year in 2019. In Year 10 the students have many decisions to make in relation to their pathway, is it to be VCE or VCAL? Both are viable alternatives and all students should seek advice from a range of people before deciding. These people are their family, teachers, careers advisors and peers.
Key questions are:
- What are my interests and passions?
- What are my strengths?
- What are my intended careers?
- Which subjects support the above questions?
- How am I going in these subjects and do my teachers feel I will be able to achieve successfully in them next year, and the year after?
Chaplaincy at Senior School
At the end of last term we said farewell to Lena Johnstone. Lena is to take up a great role at her church in Ocean Grove and we wish to acknowledge her incredible service to our College. Lena counselled students in a caring and sympathetic manner and for that we are most grateful.
For the remainder of the year, Mr Stephen Riddle and Mrs Jennifer Foord have been appointed to serve our campus in a Chaplaincy capacity. Steve will be working on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with Jennifer working on Tuesday and Thursday. Naomi Gibbons will continue her good work on a Wednesday each week at the Senior School Campus. The Senior School community will benefit in the spiritual and pastoral guidance provided by this team.
Mr Stephen Riddle offers much by way of wisdom and experience for this role. He has previously been a Pastor, is a current Elder at his Church, a previous Head of Campus at Christian College and has served in other interim positions as a Chaplain. His intimate knowledge and understanding of the College will be a wonderful asset.
Mrs Jennifer Foord brings over ten years of experience and passion in working with and supporting young people. As a current Youth Pastor, school teacher and Chaplain, she is keen to further her work in making a difference in the lives of others. Jen’s warmth and relational spirit will be valuable in connecting with the Senior chool community.
Subject Expo and VCE Information Night
Our Subject Expo and VCE Information Night is on Wednesday 25 July from 4.00 pm to 9.00 pm. Current Year 9 students will attend from 4.00 to 6.00 pm and Year 10 and interested Year 11 students are asked to visit from 7 to 9.00 pm. We encourage all students and parents and guardians to attend where they will be able to speak with staff about possible pathways in general and subjects in particular. Booths will have information that you may take away and discuss as a family.
For the Year 10 students, in the Chapel there will be a VCE presentation held at 7.00 pm and again at 8.00 pm if required, while the VCAL presentation will be held at 7.30 pm. It is here that these courses will be explained and will help you to then go to the relevant booths to ask further suggestions.
We look forward to seeing you there.
The campus photos are on Thursday 26 July. We ask all parents and guardians to ensure that the correct Winter school uniform is worn on this day by students. We thank you for your support of this.
Future’s Week 2018 for Senior School students will be held next week from July 23-27. Each morning begins with an opportunity for all students to understand and explore a little more of some of the options for pathway choices. Year 11 and 12 students have presentations from tertiary providers both TAFE & University, highlighting a range of further study options. Year 10’s will spend time looking at and gaining a little more understanding of the Senior years ahead – be it VCE or VCAL. These session will begin promtly at 9.00 am. Punctuality would be appreciated for these presentations.
Year 12 English Orals
The Year 12 English Orals are to take place from Monday 23 July. We wish all Year 12 students the best of luck for this assessment. Also we want to acknowledge the staff who will be leading this and assessing the presentations.
