Design, Thinking and action…....
Today our Year 11 Product Design students ventured out to the Williams House Kindergarten to meet with their clients and end users, the Kinder staff and students. With the intention of understanding the requirements to design and produce, imaginative play based equipment for the kinder grounds.
Unit 2 requires students to design and develop products as part of a team, and what better opportunity to do this than having a real world experience to design and create some equipment for our own community, and having good quality feedback from our hardest critics, 3 and 4 year old students.
The Design Process was well underway once discussions with Bernadette Johnston and Steph Butler had begun, they had stipulated their design brief requirements including; Imaginative, creative play opportunities for the students, sustainable practices, and natural earthy raw aesthetics, amongst many others. The unit 2 Designers observed their end users in action and noted how existing equipment is being utilised.
I am looking forward to seeing what our Year 11 students produce once they have utilised the design process to define their scope: to visualise, design and propose appropriate solutions, then plan and create for our Kindergarten students.
