From the Head of Junior School
Dear Parents and families,
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very warm welcome back to Term 3 in the midst of very cold weather! It was lovely to see the enthusiasm of students returning to Junior School this week as they bubbled with excitement to see their friends, teachers and resume their learning. We are very blessed to be able to welcome back Mrs Anne Spence to PB as Mrs Annie Boseley has commenced leave. We have welcomed Mrs Tess Carr into 3R whilst Mrs Christine Adam takes Long Service Leave and Mrs Liza Lambert to 2R whilst Mr. Chambers is on Paternity leave. We have also welcomed new students and families who have joined us across the year levels this term. I especially pray for them to have a sense of ease in their transition and feel part of our Christian College community.
One of the many exciting initiatives this term is a focus on the everyday ways we can take action for sustainability as a Junior School community. Sustainability is a cross-curriculum priority in the Australian Curriculum which addresses the ‘ongoing capacity of Earth to maintain all life’. Our goal for this initiative is to build student capacities for thinking and acting in ways that help create a more sustainable future. We hope to empower students through this focus to design action that will contribute positively to a sustainable future. Some of the exciting things happening will be upcycling, composting, growing our own produce and considering whether to package or not to package!! Next week’s pop up challenge for staff and students is upcycling, 'turning the old into new' and we look forward to seeing the creative thinking and enterprises that result.
When our College Vice-Principal Mr Scott Elliss addressed our Junior School at assembly on Tuesday he encouraged us to marvel at God’s magnificent and perfect creation. In considering things such as sustainability we encourage students to hear the scripture message in Genesis 2:15 that asks us to “work and keep” his creation and soak in its beauty.
Wishing you all a wonderful term ahead,
Head of Junior School
