We are delighted to have two well-known authors visiting our school next month!
James Phelan is noted for his fast-paced writing style that appeals as much to boys as girls. On Thursday 4th August, James will work closely with Year 7 Writers’ Workshop students on “Making your work shine”. He will also run sessions with all Year 7 and Year 8 students, talking about his journey from writing thrillers to writing young adult and middle grade novels – all of them stories he had to tell.
On Friday August 5th, Oliver Phommavanh will be talking to students in Years 5 and 6 about reading, writing and his life as a writer. This will be a fantastic opportunity to get to know the ins and outs of writing stories. Students will hear how Oliver became an author, stand-up comedian and teacher. He’ll take the students on a crazy journey into his creative process, exploring where he got the ideas for his books as well as sharing tips for funny and wacky stories.
A visit from an author is an exciting way to expose students to the wonders of reading and writing. When authors come to speak to young people, they often inspire them to want to read great books and to write with more consideration for their audience than ever before.
