Alpine Experience - Year 10 Outdoor Education
Last week our Year 10 Outdoor Education students took part in an introductory alpine environment practical experience. Students connect with and learn about the environment and the issues that confront the area while developing their skills as they ski over the mountain on the cross country trails. The 2009 Black Saturday fires and the future of the resort are two aspects of the area study that will be reflected upon back at school. Evidence and observations are collected about the impact of fire on alpine ecology, as well as their first hand experiences with the mountain which is used to engage students with the DELWP discussion in regard to the future of the resort.
Students were met with challenging weather conditions for which they were well prepared thanks to the organising and thorough planning by the class and their teachers. The skills and knowledge that they learn in this introductory unit is further built upon in Year 11 when they visit Mount Baw Baw and in Year 12 at Falls Creek.
