The Year 12 Prefect Trip to East Timor is always a highlight for the students. They travel to the district of Viqueque on a mission to improve the lives of those they met there. This is a yearly trip for the Prefects and one which many say is a ‘life-changing’ experience.
A reflection from Year 12 student, Nicole, who recently visited East Timor: “In a time when young people are so influenced by social media, and so connected to people who have more than us, it is easy to develop an unhealthy want for unnecessary material possessions,” Nicole said, reflecting on her experience. “Travelling to a developing country at a young age really puts things into perspective, and it can entirely alter the way a young person behaves and treats others,” she said. “It also taught me the importance of not comparing yourself to other people, as that seems to be the root of selfishness in Western society. The Timorese people seemed to always look for the good in people, and admired others for their character, rather than their material possessions.”
